Battlefield Vegas Construction Part 2

Battlefield Vegas

After many years of laying the ground work, Battlefield: Vegas opened their doors to the public on November 1st, 2012.  The following is the wrap up of our coverage of the construction process of this kick ass machine gun range and firearms/military museum.  If you haven’t read Part 1 yet, please do so first.Battlefield Vegas Construction Part 2

Picking up where we left off, workers finished up the back half of the range by completing the roof, HVAC, and electrical systems.  Compared to building the range walls, this was an unbelievably quick process.  In the photo to the left, you can see the large I beam that was installed to support the roof after removing the center vertical support beam.  Once all the trusses were in place, the construction crew wasted no time in closing off the range and hanging drywall.  The next step in the build was to complete the bullet trap assembly and hang the steel baffles.  This was a 2-3 day process.

Each of the 11 shooting lanes are 25 yards deep and the shooting stalls are roughly 3.5′ wide, giving the shooters plenty of space to work with.  The last 2 lanes have pintle mounts to accommodate the larger belt-fed machine guns.  Each bay has it’s own lighting and target retrieval system.  Speaking of the lighting, history has shown that regular lights have a difficult time standing up to the repeated concussion of gun fire.  For this reason, the main range lights were replaced with LEDs which will not only hold up better in these conditions but they will last much longer and conserve energy.  Future plans include adding cameras to each bay and giving customers the option to record their experiences.

Back in the retail, rental, and VIP areas, the old ceilings were ripped out, dozens of CCTV cameras were installed along with new electrical wiring.  The walls and ceilings were  put back up after the proper inspections and new light fixtures were hung.  At this point, things slowed way down as the majority of the work going on was made up of many small projects.  It seemed like there was a month or two there where I would stop in every couple of days and see people on ladders half way into the ceiling as they connected all the puzzle pieces together and tested everything out.  New flooring, carpet, paint, etc…Unfortunately, there’s not a lot of interesting things to show during this time.  Turns out that watching people install toilets, screw in light bulbs, and light switch plates isn’t really all that exciting.

I’m going to skip the photos and description of the vault where the IT infrastructure and security system is.  Although I find it interesting, it could potentially lead to a security problem.  However, I have been cleared to show you some of the main gun vault construction.  Both vaults, as well as the rest of the facility, are also protected by 95 drop mics that monitor sound when the business is secure.  If the mics pic up anything much louder than a mouse fart, the security system is activated.

Just like the range walls, the vault is built out of rebar and grout filled masonry block.  Part of the concrete floor was cut out to add strength to the walls and allow the vertical rebar to be set deep into the ground.  Once the walls reached the proper level, the remaining rebar was bent 90 degrees and additional rebar was woven through the top of the vault.  A sprinkler head was added and the entire thing was filled with concrete.  Holes were also punched into the existing wall so that additional grout could be pumped in.  After a few days of curing, the wooden supports were removed, the new Fort Knox door was put in place, and this 9×12′ vault was filled to the brim with over 350 machine guns spanning multiple eras.

As far as the exterior goes, Battlefield:  Vegas will be an ongoing work in progress.  The primary building had a bunch of back lit signs added that showcase some of the firearms available from the range.  The owners even spent some time painting camouflage patterns and stacking sand bags around various places on the property.  New ideas about what else to do with the property continue to pour in and I’m looking forward to seeing how it all pulls together.

Then came the sign…

This thing is a monster and for the cost of the LCD panels alone, you could buy a nice luxury sedan.  Above the panels is the largest M4 I’ve ever seen and at night, it lights up with neon.

As far as I know, this is the single largest machine gun collection available to the public.  I’m not aware of any other facility in the U.S. where you can walk in and shoot such a massive variety of weapons from around the world.  Battlefield: Vegas also offers a sick outdoor machine gun experience that is not for the faint of heart.  We’ll get into more about that as well as additional details of this attraction in the near future.

What an experience, I have’t been to Vegas in about twelve years. I plan to bring my son out for one of the spring time monster truck events in the next year or two. This gun range will be on the list of places to drop a few bucks at. Wow I just can’t wait! What a world class looking place.

  10. jwnomad December 30, 2012 at 9:06 pm #

I can enjoyed the write up. You show some of the work to get Battlefeild Vegas up and running. The experience of these packages; will be great. I hope to go there. I hope to win that would even be better. This contest is another great one from 702 Shooter.

The shooting scene for locals just took a big step up! Can’t wait to check it out!

  13. sven79 December 30, 2012 at 9:42 pm #

Thanks for the update; I was wondering how this place was coming along. It will definitely be on my list of things to do the next time I’m in Las Vegas. I’m impressed with the variety of weapons and packages to choose from, and you can’t beat that sign!

  14. seahawkkid December 30, 2012 at 10:05 pm #

Can’t wait till I get some time so I can look it over and give it a try.
    Thanks

This sounds like an amazing place! Especially since i hear they give well deserved respect to our armed forces. Even if it’s just to give them a high five, I reckon I’ll have to make it down and check it out.

  16. wkilburn December 31, 2012 at 6:01 am #

Seal Team VI package looks awesome. I can’t wait to try.

  17. theautobahn December 31, 2012 at 6:42 am #

I especially like the gun vault. I have a couple of friends who may or may not be building something similar (and although their collections are pretty good, they don’t match this one). The POF on the sign is an excellent touch. And the prices for most of their packages aren’t too out of whack. Can the last two lanes of the range be used for regular guns, or only the heavy belt-feds that mount on the pintles? Seems like if that were the case, it would be a major waste of space / revenue.

  18. mswguitar December 31, 2012 at 7:05 am #

Wow, what an impressive looking facility. Looks like a tremendous amount of time and money were invested to make Battlefield Vegas a top-notch attraction. That’s pretty cool how the drop-mics will secure the premises. When my buddies from California come to town, looks like I have a new place to take them.

  19. TheNightmareMan December 31, 2012 at 7:41 am #

I am very impressed! It appears to be a state of art facility. I myself have never been to Vegas, much less a facility such as this one. I am close to an outdoor machine gun range, but in the Winter months, it simply just is not the same. Maybe more of these will pop up around the country. Also, maybe some smaller cardboard versions of that awesome sign could be made. I will buy one right now. In the meantime, all I can do is hope I get a lucky notice.

  20. gsconzert December 31, 2012 at 8:06 am #

You can tell these guys really took the time to make a facility that will stand up to the test of time. I will be out there next month and hope that I can find time to swing by and take a first hand look.

  21. Joshua T December 31, 2012 at 8:08 am #

I can’t wait to walk thru the doors and enjoy the freedom of America!!!

  22. Frank December 31, 2012 at 8:25 am #

I am looking forward to going there, as a vietnam vet and a local I am sure I will be visiting there often

  23. shadow260 December 31, 2012 at 9:25 am #

Hay that’s some sweet packages..I’d love to be a victim, err winner…LOL, I have family there so it would make for a great trip for me…

    Keeping the 2nd Amendment alive…

  24. AJAlpha33 December 31, 2012 at 9:30 am #

I have been hearing about this range for some time now and am very interested in visiting it. Next time I am in Vegas I will stop by to take a look.

  25. newguy December 31, 2012 at 10:00 am #

Wow, somehting to do besides gamble, maybe there’s hope for the free world aftgerall.

  26. mbogo December 31, 2012 at 10:39 am #

That place looks like a lot of fun!

  27. lurch December 31, 2012 at 11:33 am #

Battlefield looks freakin amazing!! I have been in awe as I have watched the posts on Facebook of the weapons that are available to try at the range. It goes far beyond just fully automatic machine guns!! I think I am the most excited to try the R.P.G. Trainer, that thing looks awesome!! This would be an amazing package to win and is totally awesome that Battlefield offered it to the 702shooter community. Good luck to all who enter correctly!!

  28. swmcphrsn December 31, 2012 at 11:48 am #

I remember reading Part 1 when it was first posted. I didn’t get a good sense of what was being planned. I’ve got to say that Part 2 makes the facility look AMAZING! Thanks for the pictures of the lanes, the way the traps are set up, the lounges, etc. Thanks especially for the pictures of all of the automatic weapons in the safe. I checked the Battlefield Las Vegas website and they have an excellent description of all of the firearms they have available, many of which are not listed in any of the experiences.
The Gamer experiences look like lots of fun but I’m a bit old school myself so I’d probably pick the Battle of Iwo Jima to shoot the M2 and the Thompson.

  29. jazcat December 31, 2012 at 12:44 pm #

We are headed to Vegas for CES and checking out Battlefield Vegas is definitely on our list of Things To Do.

  30. Winkmeister December 31, 2012 at 1:28 pm #

I like the various packages you’ve pulled together one can try weapons of a particular time or place, or those used in certain movies they’ve seen in the past (gangster and war movies). Hope you are able to attract more groups and corporate events with your meeting facilities and attractions centered on, yet expanding, the shooting experience.

  31. GOLDENHAWKBALL December 31, 2012 at 3:21 pm #

I don’t think I could have dreamed up a facility like this. as a brick-layer, I can attest to the strength of the vault. this said, would it ever be possible to get my hands on any of the guns in that vault, as I am unfamiliar with all the loopholes of class III firearm ownership. either way, this looks like a great way to spend a weekend, or a year

  32. aquaticvisions December 31, 2012 at 3:54 pm #

I would like to get some friends from Kalifornia and have them shoot the M249 and 1919. It would blow their liberal minds.

  33. mperkins37 January 1, 2013 at 1:00 am #

Why is all ,the cool stuff in Vegas? They should bring some of that hotness to AZ….. Talk about a GOOD Time!

  34. Treetopkiller1 January 1, 2013 at 9:16 am #

The range looks well thought out and appears like it will provide a full over-the-top Vegas experience to shooters. The winners getting to shoot through a war scenario gives the shoot some structure and challenge. Looks like a great package and opportunity to shoot some hardware that most people will never even see. Thanks-

  35. kellerclan January 1, 2013 at 1:31 pm #

Amazing! Simply amazing! Time for a trip to vegas!! Boohaa! I hope they will be able to stay in business even after all the dunder heads in gubmint try to break everything so they can fix it!

  36. viperdoc January 1, 2013 at 3:26 pm #

Looks like a great facility – I’m looking forward to checking it out!

  37. borgranta January 2, 2013 at 1:54 pm #

It looks like an awesome place to visit maybe even an excuse to move nextdoor because I may never want to leave.

  38. mustv8 January 2, 2013 at 6:34 pm #

This would be a great vacation, looks to be a real nice place.
I wish there was a place like this close to MO. Thanks to all of
702 for all the give a ways.

  39. Chosen_1 January 3, 2013 at 1:13 pm #

This place looks really cool. I am weary of MG ranges in Las Vegas, since most of them tend to gouge you on ammo prices. These guys seem to be very reasonably priced, I look forward to visiting next time I’m in LV.

  40. CaustusPium January 3, 2013 at 9:01 pm #

The partners that put this together are great guys and truly deserve the success this facility should bring them. Watching this go up, both here and each time I’ve driven down Industrial, has been awesome. Sure makes you wish there was an unlimited supply of ammo in your stash!

  41. stephen January 6, 2013 at 10:17 am #

Impressive range and even more impressive series of articles on the building of this facility.

  42. hcso29 January 7, 2013 at 10:04 am #

i have just gotten into AR-15’s again after several years away from them. The Colt that I just bought would love to visit Vegas and shoot at a place like Battlefield Vegas. I also would love to have an opportunity to use and maybe even purchase some of the weapons available there. What a great opportunity! Thanks so much for this giveaway. I’ll keep my fingers crossed on this one.

My son and his friend loved this. Clean and professional environment. They will definately be back. They loved the petting zoo!! Cool clothes. Professional instruction, safety in a controlled environment. Awesome.

  46. wopspice January 14, 2013 at 4:47 pm #

This is awesome! I saw signs for Battlefield when I was in Vegas a week ago for CES and had to come back here to read about it again. I think the biggest problem I would have it trying to figure out which course to go on! Considering what’s going on in Cali, this is probably one of the few chances I will get to even fire a machine gun so count me in.

  47. airbugs January 18, 2013 at 3:32 pm #

Great shooting range. It’s a far cry from AZ but that was 15 years ago lol

  48. redecker73 January 24, 2013 at 8:16 am #

Looks like the only reason I want to come to Vegas. Looks like it would be worth the trip.

  49. ColoJer January 24, 2013 at 3:15 pm #

Unbelievable range on it’s own, but with the Vegas twist…epic!

  50. grizzly 73 January 24, 2013 at 5:52 pm #

After reading all about this adventure opportunity, I had to make sure I was not just dreaming. This place sounds so awesome that I cannot wait for the chance to visit. All of the packages sound very interesting, and I would most likely want to make it a out enough times to try them all.

What can I say, that would be an experience of a lifetime!

  56. Dogmatic January 27, 2013 at 8:35 pm #

I love living in a state that recognizes our rights to live free rather than take the New York approach and stifle citizens right to exerciser their second amendment freedoms. Bravo Battlefield for creating this amazing facility and supporting Nevada shooters.

  57. JRay January 29, 2013 at 5:03 am #

Finally, an amusement park that empowers its visitors with skills fit for the current day instead of just taking their money and send them home with fond memories. This “Theme Park” is truly a gift of love that freedom lovers from around the world will love and want to revisit.

  58. fakashoot January 29, 2013 at 3:20 pm #

  59. justxvictor February 3, 2013 at 12:10 am #

I haven’t been to any of these “machine gun ranges” in town, but reading this article makes me want to visit battlefield vegas.

  60. quakeroats February 4, 2013 at 9:57 pm #

Yet another (small, but) awesome reason for me to move west. That looks incredible.

  61. Anumber1username February 11, 2013 at 10:33 pm #

Great write up. I have stopped by this place before on a whim when driving past once, wonderful facilities and very helpful staff.

  62. Lovegrove1 February 21, 2013 at 10:43 pm #

You guys have definitely set the bar. All other facilities will now have a lot of catching up to do. The place looks AMAZING so far and I looking forward to coming to town… Forget the strip, I’m coming to you guys. These giveaways are fantastic. To be able to get a AWESOME weapon system with goodies is incredible, but being able to take that system and learn from Larry, well, that is just OUTNOF THIS WORLD. Thank you again and good luck to all.

  63. Nuclear Optics February 26, 2013 at 5:29 am #

702, Once again a very thorough review. It is a top notch facility with great employees. I have been down there to check it out and it is a ton of fun. If you have never shot an automatic weapon, I would highly recommend checking this place out. There are alot of cool vehicles in the parking lot to walk through and check out as well.
