Discount Firearms and Ammo

Let me be perfectly clear that I’m not here to beat a dead horse. In fact, just the opposite. As many of you know, the reputation of Discount Firearms and Ammo has not been the best over the last few years. All that has changed when the new owners  took over the shop in the fall of 2010. Today the shop looks vastly different. It’s clean, repainted, and the merchandise layout is much better not to mention a significantly increased inventory of new guns, ammo, and accessories. Although some of the same staff is still there, the quality of customer service is a primary focus of the new owners and the staff is eagerly following their lead.

Joey Wyson & Dan Schott

For those of you who may not be familiar with Discount Firearms, they are the closest retail gun shop and shooting range to the Las Vegas strip. They have one of the better indoor ranges in the city and offer gun rentals including 50 handguns and 11 full auto machine guns. The range itself has 14 lanes which are 75 feet long and feature programmable targets with time delay, distance, and 360 degree rotational targets. Fresh air is constantly being circulated and the entire range is refreshed every 85 seconds. If you bring your own guns you can also use your own ammunition. Although the range is designed to handle up to .50 cal, anything over a 454 or 45-70 can blow out the lights so leave your .50 at home.

All range fees include a target, eye, & ear protection. Most of their class III guns run $50.00 for 50 rounds with the exception of their belt-fed RPD and Browning 1919 which cost a little more to shoot. Hand guns run $35.00 to $75.00. Discounted group packages are available.

Class III Machine Gun Rentals

Discount Firearms also offers CCW classes every 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month. Their classes can handle up to 22 students and Multi-State classes are available as well. Although they do have a full time instructor, at present time they are seeking qualified candidates for additional training positions. If you have the proper NRA, PILB, and White Card certifications then you may want contact them.

Whether you are an avid hunter or a black rifle fan, they have you covered. The store offers both new and used guns and if you’re looking for ammo, D.F. stocks 750k – 1 million rounds on any given day.

If you’re like me and experienced some “issues” with the prior ownership, do yourself a favor and stop by again. Check out the changes, meet the new owners, and see the difference for yourself. I’m glad I did and hopefully you will be too.

That’s great news. Discount had my business years ago, mainly due to the talent they had behind the counter. When those folks left, so did my business. I’m looking forward to visiting the new Discount Firearms.

Yeah, George was great. I used to drop in just to visit with him. I’ll have to check out the shop since the change of ownership.

This is great news! I’ve only been to the old Boulder Highway (now American Shooters) once. That was all it took for me before looking elsewhere. Good to see that there are new people with a new attitude doing business in Las Vegas. Need to renew my CCW that I let lapse, so I’ll look into their CCW class in a few weeks.

Discount Firearms still leaves a lot to be desired! Hoping what was said about positive changes in your article above was true I payed DF a visit today. The store looks nicer for sure but this young kid behind the counter was helping another customer fill out an application for the purchase of a Glock and told the customer with a very care free attitude that he could put him down on the application as a reference – it made no difference to him who the customer put down as a reference! I then made the mistake of asking the kid if DF participated in the GSSF civilian Glock purchase program and he had no idea what I was talking about!! He then said their Glock rep. was there just a day or two ago and never mentioned it. Stunned, I turned around and about ran out the door!!

So because the young man couldn’t answer that question you would run out?

After reading this, my cousin and I went over to check them out. nice range, very affordable to shoot there, and friendly people. We also found out that you can qualify additional firearms for your NV CCW for $10.00 each. pretty good deal, I will be going back

OK, I was a little skeptical about going to that part of town for a gun shop. I live in North Las Vegas but I was on my way home from the gun show @ the South Point :( I had gone there (Discount Firearms) years ago with my dad and I wasn’t impressed. As soon as I walked in I knew it was under new management. Nice big place and a lot of new guns in the racks. A lot of pistols in the counters also. I did notice that the shelves are a bit bare as far as firearms accessories but I’m sure they will eventually be full. They also have what looked like a classroom in the back for CCW classes. After my initial shock the woman behind the counter greeted us and asked if we were there to shoot. When I told her I was the contest winner she called another person up to help us (she was swampped with shooters, being Saturday). Everybody there was being treated well including me. The gentleman who was in charge of the shoot was friendly and knowledgable about the firearm, which was an MP5. He got me a large t-shirt (asked if I wanted to shoot the shirt, what do I want with a shirt full of holes?), and took me into the shoot range only 5 min. after I had arrived. I got 2 full mags, a t-shirt, free target, ears (not to keep), and glasses. He put up the target, put it out, and handed me the MP5 and said “go ahead and shoot!”. Man that is a sweet gun, even though it is 9mm (not my favorite round). I was shooting semi auto and he said “you can put it in full auto anytime!”. I flipped it to full auto and went to town! I want an MP5 now! Overall, the experience was great! Great service, nice people, and knowledgable staff. My brother and I stayed to shoot some guns we brought and it was only $10 for the use of the range. I will definitely be going back to Discount Firearms!

I recently purchased a Glock 23 Gen 4 from here and I couldn’t be happier with my whole experience. The staff was very friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. Its irrelevant on what the reputation USED to be at Discount Firearms & Ammo as the new ownership has surpassed all of my expectations in a gun store. I will be back!
