The 2012 Shot Show

I’m gonna start off by telling you that I simply was not all that impressed by this years Shot Show.  Although I did find some cool new products, it seemed that a lot of companies were holding back.  In fact, several of the vendors I spoke with specifically stated that they had concerns about investing in new products due to the unknown outcome of the upcoming elections.

Usually this show takes a full 3 days to work my way through and I spend the 4th day re-visiting those I was unable to get time with on the previous days.  This year was different though.  As I zipped along, row by row, not a whole lot caught my attention.  Some of the manufacturer reps seemed irritated and lacked any sort of customer service skills.  I spent at least 15 minutes walking around the Blazer booth trying to find somebody to talk with.  There were a few people working the booth but every time I, or most others, approached them, they would turn and walk away.  Seriously?  Blazer products cost from roughly $6,000.00 on up to over $20,000.00 and they feel it’s OK to snub people at a trade show they paid to display at?  WTF?

On the flip side, Sig Sauer, Glock Vector Industries, Glockworx, Troy Industries, Advanced Armament Corporation, and Technoframes all went out of their way to attend to everybody’s needs.  There were a lot of Zombie products and damn near every AR manufacturer came out with some sort of 300 Blackout, which was to be expected.  Although I’m kinda kicking myself for not taking more pictures, we do have some great new and innovative products to show you and there are videos of each one.

Speaking of the videos, I’d like to take a moment to thank the 702Shooter.com site supporters.  With their help, I was able to buy some new audio equipment which significantly  increased the quality of the videos.  Next year I need to buy a good Light Panel video light.  ;)  If you like the videos, please click the thumbs up on the top left after the end of the video.  If you’re a YouTube user, kindly subscribe to our channel and send a friend request while you’re at it.

Thank you to our site subscribers and visitors as well.  The second half of 2011 brought us an incredible jump in traffic and so far, we are setting new records, almost daily, in 2012.  This keeps me motivated to bring you more product reviews, more gun store & range openings, and more product giveaways.

Thanks for the update! It will be interesting to see if the election this year yields an even larger increase in firearm sales than 2008’s election.

Thank you for coverage of SHOT 2012. Seeing as I am getting back into this sport after a 20 hiatus, it’s nice to see webites like this. I’m perusing through all the product reviews.

Responsible shooting should be a gun owners priority and that starts with safety. Great article. Would love to have those Howard Leight Sync Stereo Earmuffs for my shooting excursion and who would want a mystery prize:-)

  14. kirkh2o February 15, 2012 at 10:06 pm #

Nice article, Im curious about the mystery prize.

  15. mustv8 February 18, 2012 at 7:20 pm #

great videos love the site, Thanks for all you do.

  16. VegasExec February 19, 2012 at 9:55 am #

Thanks for the article. Sometimes I wish they would have 1 day at shot, sans pricing etc., just for Q & A for the everyday shooter.

I’m local, so no need to ship the ear muffs and mystery prize. :)

Although I understand your viewpoint, this show is packed with people from open to close all 4 days. I know that a lot of the gun stores out their place the majority of their annual orders at this show. A lot of gun ranges order the bulk of their ammo there too. The event is simply not intended for the public and truth be told, a number of the vendors are not happy with the amount of “press” that attend. I doubt they would be any happier for the general public.

If the 2012 Elections are favorable for gun owners, I can’t wait to see how the Shot Show goes in 2013. Of course, 702, maybe you’ve been going enough times that you’ve seen everything there is to see? Skip a year and see what happens?

    • 702 February 19, 2012 at 8:30 pm #

This was only my third. If the elections are favorable it will be late in the year with Shot Show about 2 months away. Not much time to put into R&D.

The show may not have been as interesting to me this year but I still enjoyed myself and am looking forward to the next.

  18. Jarrington February 20, 2012 at 5:03 pm #

Thanks for the info. I’m worried about the upcoming election as well. I subscribed to your YouTube channel.

  20. WeaponsCache February 20, 2012 at 6:06 pm #

I could really use some ear-pro

  21. telomere February 20, 2012 at 7:08 pm #

SHOT show seems to get the same complaint every year. One guys says it was awesome, the next guy says it was lame because everything was the same.
Obviously it probably falls somewhere in the middle. Of course lots of the stuff is similar, when someone has a good.popular idea it gets copied.
I for one am hyped for the XDS, as it seems many other people are.
Slidefire solutions stocks seem like an awesome way to burn though a ton of ammo,at near full-auto speed, too.

  22. saildog0353@ February 20, 2012 at 7:25 pm #

Fine product. I would love to win.

  23. wghayestx February 20, 2012 at 10:15 pm #

I have borrowed a pair of these earmuffs in the past and they are excellent. Very comfortable.

  25. AK47sForAll February 21, 2012 at 10:03 am #

Was a good show as always from what I hear. Thanks for the report.

  26. slackerjer February 21, 2012 at 10:17 am #

  27. DonSkokie February 21, 2012 at 11:18 am #

I was curious to see more about the Sphinx line up this year, but it seems very much the same as last years. Still waiting on availability and pricing. Thank you for the reviews.

  28. Subdriver February 21, 2012 at 4:48 pm #

Looking forward to trying the new hearing protection! (pick me).

  29. justinuk1 February 23, 2012 at 11:36 am #

All the zombie products make me cringe.. it’s never going to happen! What’s next, selling loads of silver bullets for vampires?

    • 702 February 23, 2012 at 2:18 pm #

Not very likely. Silver bullets are for werewolves.

A big thank you to 702shooter for the lucky draw! The headset is awesome. Very crisp music…. and even with the music off, they are strong enough to tune out the wife and kids!

Thank you for the giveaways, but mostly thank you for the write ups that go with them to keep us up to speed in the 702 shooting world!

  37. Ronin April 1, 2012 at 5:57 pm #

These look like they would be great for practicing while listening to “range calls” for Bullseye shooters… Give them a try…

  38. jonbeile April 26, 2012 at 6:25 pm #

Commies, socialist and liberals make sure and vote for obama this November 7th.

  39. Rodger April 29, 2012 at 9:28 am #

What a shame that this election season there are nothing but losers on both sides.

  40. BGman July 4, 2012 at 10:23 pm #

This election doesn’t matter for gun policy. Our own Harry Reid would kill any anti-gun legislation in the Senate.

  41. sincityvogel September 24, 2012 at 12:55 am #

Shot is always fun. Iv been A couple of years.

    Thanks Matt
