Zombie Apocalypse Store

OK, lets be honest here.  If you think the “un-dead” are going to rise up and feed off your brains then well…You probably don’t have enough brains to worry about.  In the past I’ve made a post or two where I have clearly stated that I’m not into all this zombie stuff.  However, I’m not oblivious to the marketing potential the whole “zombie movement” brings to the table.  Using the zombie thing can and does tap into a completely new customer base that a lot of businesses will benefit from.

The fist thing we need to be clear of is that the term “Zombie”, outside of the movies anyway, is used as a metaphor to describe any sort of disaster whether it be man made or caused by nature.  Being “prepared for a zombie attack” means different things to different people.  Some would call hurricane Katrina a “zombie attack” while others think of it as a home invasion.  No matter what your “zombie” is, the bottom line is being prepared to deal with it and that is where the marketing power of zombies comes into play.

Countless companies have developed “zombie” products to increase their sales and brand awareness.  A number of these products include a bio-hazard symbol or bright green color.  Those who consider themselves to be “Preppers” are already aware of the products and services  available for their specific needs.  However, what about those who never considered such things?  By using the “zombies”, companies have been able to reach a huge new demographic.  While it certainly brings up some controversy, this tactic equally increases sales.

Zombie Apocalypse Store Las Vegas, NVDue to his background in marketing, Mike Monko realized the zombie potential so in November of 2011, he opened the Las Vegas, NV based Zombie Apocalypse Store.  As it turns out, this was a good move as it not only brings in local customers but his store and website both receive International visitors on a daily basis.  Some come out of curiosity while others know exactly what they want, although they often find other things they did not expect.  As Mike puts it: “50% of our products are fun and the other 50% are functional.  Being prepared for the ultimate zombie attack means being prepared for anything.”

Zombie Apocalypse Store Las Vegas, NVWhen the average person thinks of a “Survivalist Store” they often imagine a dirty store filled with the kind of people who dig caves in the hills and stock them with guns, ammo, food, water, etc…  Truth be told, most of us will never take such extreme measures but that doesn’t mean we can’t give a little thought to being prepared.  Long term food & water storage, alternative cooking and heating sources, lights, knives, first aid kits, and much more are all things that every one of us could potentially benefit from.  These are the “functional” types of products that Mike refers to.

On the “fun” side of things, the Zombie Apocalypse Store offers zombie themed merchandise like games, mugs, hats, stickers, and t-shirts.  They also have an old west zombie shooting gallery and an airsoft range with full auto airsoft rifles you can shoot at “bleeding” zombie t-shirts.

You might not be interested in blowing up Tannerite filled bleeding zombie targets but it may be worth your time to pick up a basic survival book and a few supplies.  Things like this could make your life much easier in the event of floods, power outages, earthquakes, or for when the aliens invade Nevada to reclaim the bodies of their lost brethren from Area 51.  ;)  Whatever your reason for visiting the Zombie Apocalypse Store, be sure to remember Zombieland Rule #32.

Nice write up, I’ve been there a couple of times. My daughter loves the store and it does have the basics for prepping which is nice.
