In 1992 Jim West opened the first Wild West Guns location in Anchorage, AK. Since then, the West family has expanded their business by supplying “The Last Frontier” with nothing but the finest quality firearms from various manufacturers as well as their own custom built beauties. WWG is the only authorized warranty center in Alaska for Remington, Winchester, Browning, and Marlin.
So what are they doing here in Las Vegas? I’m glad you asked.
The West’s found themselves manufacturing parts then sending them up and down the West Coast for different finishing touches. This created production delays and additional expenses that could be eliminated by moving all work in house. They decided to purchase a 10,000 square foot building in Vegas because the area is a great central distribution point for their growing client base. At present time, they are building one hell of a facility which the Father / Son duo were kind enough to give us a sneak peek of. This new addition to WWG will become the hub for all of their custom work and the first of their planned expansion stores.
The new shop is being built in three basic sections:
- Retail (2,500sq feet) – The retail store will carry many quality brands of firearms plus WWG’s own creations and other shooting necessities.
- Gunsmithing (3,750sq feet) – Everything you can possibly need from 6 on site gunsmiths.
- Machine Shop (3,750sq feet) – A full blown machine shop for manufacturing pretty much any kind of custom gun part you can think of.
The soft opening of their new store is scheduled for October 1st, 2011. That is only a week away and as you can see from the photos and video, there’s a lot left to be completed before then. Their work crews are burning the midnight oil and have been continuously working 7 days a week to get things operational.
RIGHT NOW, Wild West Guns is seeking qualified candidates for several different positions in the new facility. They are also looking for resources for taxidermy animals to showcase and sell. If either of these things apply to you, please contact them through their website. www.WildWestGuns.com
Once the store opens, we will have a full writeup. This is an impressive undertaking and I for one am very excited to see the finished package.
